Arts Night at Northside - Thursday, May 15th

COME ONE COME ALL TO THE “ARTS NIGHT” AT

NOTHSIDE ELEMENTARY!

Everyone is invited to attend “Arts Night” at Northside! It will be an “open house” of all different attractions:

Come see the “2nd Annual Northside Elementary 5th grade Piano Recital” in the gym. The 5th grade will be performing piano peices they have been preparing in Music class with Mrs. Wendeln

Drop in on Ms. Stohner in the Art Room from 6pm-7:30pm to create a collage from an array of recycled materials. Remember - Reduce, Re-use, Recycle! Don’t forget to check out our hallway galleries (created by Northside students) as well, new work is going up all of the time!

Visit Mrs. Horowitz in the Library - the Book Fair will be open for you to peruse and purchase books and other items that evening!

No admission! Come prepared to have fun!

West African Celebration, Coming up, May 1st!
Monday April 21st 2008,

As the West African Celebration approaches, I want to keep you informed of what your student should be prepared for!

DRESS - please have your student come to school on Thursday May 1st with the following items they may need: Solid, plain colored T-shirt (students who do not already have a shirt from Mrs. Horowitz). If your student does not own a plain t-shirt, send in any colored t-shirt and we can use it turned inside-out. Girl Dancers should also wear gym shorts or solid (not see through) leggings to wear under the skirt. Boy Dancers and All Drummers will have tunics to wear, but nothing on the bottom. So, these students should have darker/solid pants or shorts; these can be sweat/gym pants, jeans or khakis. Remember, if you are a boy dancer, gym pants or shorts might be easier to dance in and more comfortable. No worries about shoes, this will all be done barefoot!

WHEN AND WHERE: Performance date is Thursday, May 1st. The students will performing the show twice - in the afternoon, in the Northside gym (time TBA depending on testing) and again in the evening at 6:30pm, also in the gym. Please have students meet in the library no later than 6:15pm. I will have the African outfits at school, the student just needs to show up in the dark under clothing (or keep it at school to change into). If you plan to change at school, please show up before 6:15pm to do so, because Mrs. Horowitz and I will need to be taking role and lining up students starting at 6:15pm.

DIMES FOR BRICKS: That evening, there will be a small fundraiser going on to benefit the Angel House Orphanage in Tarime, Tanzania, Africa.  The theme of the fundraiser is “Dimes for Bricks”. This is a great cause that many in my hometown community have become involved with.  It doesn’t take much to make a difference, just bring in all that spare change you have laying around the house or in the couch! For every dime that is raised, Angel House can buy one brick to build the orphanage. I will be sending all proceeds donated to the Grassroots Ministries, who is directly involved with the Angel House Orphanage. You can find out more about this wonderful project at the following web site - http://www.grassrootsministry.org/

If you have any questions, as always, feel free to contact me at Northside. Thank you for supporting your student as they open themselves up to new cultures and new experiences!
